About the Role

We are seeking a motivated

Assistant Estimator / Quantity Surveyor

to join our growing pre-construction team. This role would particularly suit someone currently working in a commercial role within a consultancy or main contractor, looking to progress their estimating and pre-construction expertise.

Working closely with the Senior Estimator and Director, you will support the preparation of accurate cost plans, bills of quantities, tender submissions and project take-offs across residential, commercial, industrial and public-sector projects.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of bills of quantities (SMM7 / NRM2 / Builders' Quantities). Carry out material take-offs from drawings using digital measurement software. Support cost planning, tender pricing and procurement activities. Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations. Help prepare tender documents, schedules and commercial submissions. Review drawings, specifications, and pre-construction documents for pricing accuracy. Maintain organised project files, cost databases and estimate templates. Provide administrative and commercial support to senior estimators and QS staff.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience within a consultancy or main contractor commercial team is preferred. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and sequencing. Competent with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with digital take-off tools (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX, Conquest, Planswift) beneficial. Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload. Confident communicator with the ability to work well within a team. Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management advantageous.
