Assistant Financial Accountant

Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Financial Accountant to support the delivery of high-quality financial accounting and reporting across SLAB.


Working closely with the Financial Accountant and the wider Finance & Procurement Department, you'll contribute to monthly and annual accounts, support budget holders, maintain accurate financial records, and help ensure compliance with IFRS, the FreM, and the SPFM.


The role also provides financial support across the organisation, including work on grants, statutory reporting, and financial data analysis.



Key responsibilities include:



performing ledger reconciliations, posting journals, and supporting monthly management accounts assisting with the annual report and accounts, internal and external audit activity, and WIP calculations providing financial analysis and advice to budget holders as part of budget setting and quarterly reviews preparing financial data for business cases, FOI requests, and public sector disclosures overseeing elements of the Grant Funding Programme, including reviewing returns and managing disbursements helping maintain and develop the financial management system.

To succeed in this role, you will need:



experience using financial management systems (Oracle Fusion experience is an advantage) strong IT proficiency, particularly advanced Excel skills confidence in providing sound technical financial advice in line with accounting standards experience in budget monitoring and supporting service managers proven problem-solving skills, strong judgement, and the ability to analyse complex information high attention to detail, good communication skills, and a collaborative, organised working style
