The role of Assistant Head Chef
We are currently seeking a committed and enthusiastic Assistant Head Chef to join our catering team. This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a vibrant community making a tangible impact on young lives.
The Assistant Head Chef will support the Kitchen Manager in the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and take full responsibility in their absence. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals tailored to a diverse range of dietary needs. Your ability to adapt to individual guests' requirements and uphold the highest standards of food hygiene and safety will be essential.
Key responsibilities
Support the Kitchen Manager in planning exciting and nutritious menus
Preparing high quality food and serving meals to guests
Adapt meal preparation to meet specific dietary, medical, and cultural needs of individual guests
Taking charge of kitchen operations on a rotation basis with the Kitchen Manager, including managing kitchen staff
Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, health, and safety regulations
Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and food safety throughout all kitchen areas
Monitor stock levels, engage with suppliers and assist with ordering
Contribute to creating a warm, welcoming, and inclusive mealtime experience for guests
What you will need
Experience in a busy kitchen environment, ideally (but not essentially - a positive attitude is more important!) within a residential, educational or care setting
Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g. Food Hygiene Level 2 or 3 certification)
Ability to lead a team with confidence and care
Strong organisational and communication skills
A flexible and compassionate approach to working with guests with a wide range of needs
Passion for making a positive difference through food and hospitality
