Assistant Head Of External Communications

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Do you want to grow the reputation of a leading charity which directly helps people experiencing homelessness?

We're looking for someone to join the St Mungo's Fundraising and Communications team as Assistant Head of External Communications. This vital role ensures our communications enhance St Mungo's reputation and strengthen our position as a leading voice on homelessness, keeping us at the forefront of efforts to help people rebuild their lives and end homelessness for good

Reporting directly to the Director of Fundraising and Communications, you'll lead a growing team responsible for press, brand execution, and key digital assets. As Assistant Head, you will:

Lead communications initiatives that strengthen our brand and reputation. Oversee visual brand, messaging, and tone across all external channels. Manage reactive and proactive press and PR activity to boost public recognition. Hold strategic oversight of digital assets, including social media and our website. Provide leadership and line management to build a high-performing team.

In this role you will be required to work flexibly for at least 2 days per week from our Central Office in Tower Hill, London. This allows for training, in person collaboration, team building, line management and other relationship building opportunities. We support a flexible approach to work with opportunities for agile working for the rest of your week; from home, or other St Mungo's London or regional locations.

About you

We are looking for someone who is proactive and motivated ready to lead the strategic development and growth of our core communications function. We encourage you to apply if:

You work well with others at all levels of an organisation, including providing supportive line management, offering expertise to support colleagues, and engaging senior leaders with high profile activity. You are passionate about building a culture where external communications are consistent, impactful and contribute to a wider organisational mission. You can bring your experience of leading busy teams with a communications focus. You have a genuine interest and commitment to tackling homelessness and ending rough sleeping.

We are working hard to create a diverse and fully inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and we welcome applications from all under-represented groups, particularly Global Majority candidates who are underrepresented at this management level.
