The Assistant Management Accountant will support the Financial Controller in preparing financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis. This role involves assisting in the preparation of management accounts and ensuring accurate financial data is available for decision-making. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of accounting principles.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
Support the budgeting and forecasting process by gathering and analysing financial data.
Perform variance analysis and provide explanations for differences between actual and budgeted results.
Assist in cost analysis, control, and reporting.
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions in accordance with company policies.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing required documentation.
Assist with the development and implementation of financial controls and procedures.
Work collaboratively with other departments to gather financial information as needed.
Support ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting requests from management.
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role (preferably within a manufacturing environment).
Familiarity with accounting software ( preferably Sage 200 )
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Desirable:
Working toward or part-qualified in a professional accounting qualification (e.g AAT, CIMA)
Experience with financial systems and reporting tools.
Career Progression:
