Job Profile

Description

British Antarctic Survey is the UK's national polar research institute, and a world-leading centre for polar science and operations. As an Assistant Management Accountant you won't just balance the books; you'll help enable the research and operations that keep UK science running smoothly on the icy continent, and support scientists working on today's leading climate change questions. Your work will directly contribute to the UK's strategic, environmental, and scientific goals in Antarctica.

We have two roles available in our Finance Team;

Operations Assistant Management Accountant: Our Operations Team are dedicated to ensuring our people are safe, supplied, and warm across our five Antarctic stations. We use planes, snowmobiles and our research ship, the Sir David Attenborough to support our science across a continent nearly twice the size of Australia. Your role is essential to ensuring the smooth, safe, and cost-effective delivery of critical operations in some of the world's harshest environments, across an 8000 mile supply chain.

Science and Innovation Assistant Management Accountant: Our scientists are unlocking the secrets of climate change, from understanding melting ice sheets to tracking the extraordinary wildlife. Their discoveries deepen our understanding of the Earth and inspire global action. You will work with our scientists to plan, forecast and report the funding streams and costs that drive this vital work.

Why these roles are cooler than most:

Purpose-Driven Work: Support climate science and international collaboration in one of the planet's most fragile and fascinating ecosystems.

Team Culture: Join a passionate, multi-disciplinary team with scientists, engineers, logisticians, and policy experts. If you're looking for an opportunity to work with amazing people in amazing places, then the British Antarctic Survey could be for you.

Enjoy a relaxed, non-corporate environment, where we believe in flexibility, trust, and collaboration.

What's in it for you:

Band C Salary which starts at 29,923.

30 days annual leave plus bank holidays and 2.5 privilege days.

Excellent civil service pension (26% employer contribution, defined benefit scheme).

Opportunity to begin or continue studying for your professional qualification with our generous and flexible study policy.

Flexible and hybrid working opportunities - we give full consideration to all requests.

Our friendly office is on the outskirts of Cambridge.

We are looking for somebody who:

Is excited about being part of our Finance team, is sharp with numbers and has a keen eye for detail and analysis.

Loves working with and supporting their non finance colleagues.

Is exceptional at staying on top of the action - effortlessly juggling priorities and smashing deadlines.

Is curious and proactive, with a passion for learning.

What you will be doing:

Establishing excellent working relationships across the organisation.

Supporting the month end process, including journals, timesheets, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

Providing support and advice to budget holders.

Maintaining financial control of projects.

Assisting with project budgeting, business planning and forecasting.

Supporting the implementation of our new financial system.
