Assistant Management Accountant

Job Description

Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records, with a particular focus on sales ledger management and assisting with the production of monthly management accounts.

Your key responsibilities will include:



Sales Ledger Management:



Process and issue sales invoices accurately and promptly.

Manage customer accounts, allocate receipts, and follow up on outstanding balances.

Investigate and resolve any discrepancies.

Support reporting on aged debt and income trends.

Bookkeeping & Reconciliation:

Maintain accurate double-entry bookkeeping records in Xero.

Complete bank reconciliations and other balance sheet reconciliations.

Post journals, accruals, and prepayments as required.

Assist with Month-End & Management Reporting:



Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis.

Support the preparation of profit and loss statements and balance sheets.

Ensure data integrity and assist in producing reports and insights for internal stakeholders.

Systems & Process Support:



Help identify and implement process improvements in the finance function.

Ensure financial data is up to date and accurately maintained within Xero.

Ad Hoc Support:



Assist with audit preparation and general finance administration as needed.

Support payroll processing (experience an advantage but not essential).

About You



We're looking for someone with a strong grasp of accounting fundamentals and a keen eye for accuracy. You'll be confident working with numbers and comfortable using digital finance tools to support a busy, modern finance function.

Essential Skills & Experience:



A solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.

AAT Level 3 or above, or equivalent qualification/experience.

Minimum of two years experience in a similar management finance role, ideally within an SME or tech environment.

Xero expertise -- particularly in sales ledger and reporting functions.

Strong Excel skills, including:

Building and using pivot tables,

Writing advanced formulas (e.g. LOOKUPS, SUMIFS, IF statements),

Creating dynamic reports for analysis and reconciliation.

Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

Confident communicator, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:



Experience assisting with management accounts or month-end processes.
