Job Description

As Assistant Cafe Manager, you will play a key leadership role in the successful day-to-day operations and continued development of the Cafe . Working closely with the Cafe Manager and supporting the wider management team, you will ensure the highest standards of service, cleanliness, team development, and operational excellence are consistently delivered.

You will take shared responsibility for team leadership, training, and performance management. You will drive a culture of outstanding customer service and innovation, ensuring the cafe is not only efficiently run but also contributes to the broader aims of Llanedi Community Council. In the absence of the Cafe Manager, you will assume full responsibility for managing all aspects of the cafe, including reporting, staffing, and financial performance.

This role requires a dynamic and commercially-minded individual with a hands-on approach, a passion for hospitality, and the ability to inspire a team in a busy, community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities, Leadership & Team Development

- Support the Cafe Manager in leading and motivating a high-performing team, ensuring excellent morale, customer service, and efficiency.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and developing team members, ensuring all staff receive consistent training, feedback, and performance reviews.
- Lead by example, fostering a positive and professional work environment that promotes continuous improvement, accountability, and team cohesion.
- Take responsibility for staffing levels, rotas, and shift management, adjusting in real-time based on business needs.

Operational Management

- Oversee all aspects of daily operations, including customer service, cleanliness, stock control, and food hygiene.
- Implement and uphold operational procedures and standards across front-of-house and kitchen areas.
- Take lead on shift in the absence of the Cafe Manager, ensuring smooth, consistent operations.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental health standards, and food hygiene legislation (e.g., COSHH, Food Safety Act).
- Conduct regular audits and checks to ensure best practices are adhered to.

Financial Performance & Reporting

- Assist the Cafe Manager with budget monitoring, cost control, and achieving key performance targets (e.g., sales, labour costs, waste reduction).
- Contribute to monthly performance reporting, providing data and analysis for senior managers and council officers.
- Assist in stock control, ordering, inventory checks, and waste minimisation strategies.

Customer Experience

- Take ownership of delivering outstanding service standards, responding to customer feedback and complaints professionally and constructively.
- Implement customer service training, ensuring all staff are confident and knowledgeable in delivering a consistent and high-quality experience.
- Promote and support community engagement through special events, promotions, and feedback initiatives.

Compliance & Administration

- Maintain accurate records related to health and safety, staffing, and operations.
- Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, training manuals, checklists, and service sequences.
- Liaise with Centre Management on building maintenance issues, IT or system failures, and ensure timely resolution.

Person Specification Essential Skills & Experience- Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory or assistant management role in a hospitality, cafe, restaurant, or retail setting.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of budgeting, stock control, scheduling, and customer

Pay: 14.82 per hour
