Role Overview

As Assistant Manager at Dr Foster, you'll work closely with the General Manager and Deputy Manager to support the daily running of the pub. You'll help lead the team, deliver outstanding guest experiences, and ensure operations are smooth, compliant, and commercially sound.

This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone passionate about service, team development, and maintaining high standards. You'll lead by example on shift, step up in the GM's absence, and play an important role in shaping a positive, high-performing team culture.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Service

Run shifts across food and drink, maintaining consistently high service standards. Be present on the floor, engaging with guests and handling any issues with confidence and professionalism. Ensure all opening, mid-shift, and closing procedures are followed accurately. Maintain excellent levels of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation throughout the venue.
Team Leadership & Training

Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of front-of-house team members. Coach, motivate, and support the team to deliver warm, efficient, and knowledgeable service. Assist with performance management, including feedback, development, and disciplinary processes when needed. Lead by example in attitude, appearance, and work ethic.
Stock, Cash & Admin

Assist with stock control, deliveries, stock rotation, and waste management. Support accurate cash handling, tills, and end-of-day procedures. Help manage rotas, time-and-attendance checks, and labour efficiency. Ensure all systems (POS, bookings, compliance logs) are used correctly.
Compliance & Safety

Uphold licensing laws, Challenge 25, and responsible alcohol service. Ensure health & safety, food safety, and allergen standards are consistently met. Support completion of required checks, logs, and incident reports.
Commercial Awareness

Support the GM in driving sales through excellent service, upselling, and events. Contribute ideas for promotions, events, and enhancing the guest experience. Develop an understanding of key performance measures such as labour, GP, and spend per head.
What We're Looking For

Essential



Previous supervisory or management experience within a pub, bar, or hospitality setting. Strong understanding of food and drink service. Confident leadership and communication skills. A proactive, hands-on approach and genuine passion for hospitality. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak trading periods. Willingness to complete a training week in another city.

Desirable



Experience with stock control, rotas, and basic financial processes. Personal Licence (or willingness to obtain one). First Aid and/or Food Safety qualifications.
