Job Summary



As our

Assistant Manager,

you'll be a key part of the PWKC team -- inspiring children through high-quality play opportunities, leading with kindness and professionalism, and stepping in to support the Club Manager when needed. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who is organised, enthusiastic, and passionate about children's wellbeing and development.

What You'll Do



Support the Club Manager in the day-to-day running of the setting. Plan and deliver imaginative, inclusive, and varied play experiences that reflect children's interests and the PWKC ethos. Be a positive role model for both children and colleagues -- upholding PWKC values of kindness, curiosity, inclusion, and community. Lead and supervise play leaders when required, fostering a collaborative, caring team culture. Set up and pack down play environments that are creative, safe and welcoming. Prepare and serve snacks and hot meals, ensuring high standards of hygiene and safety. Engage with children during free play, group activities, and mealtimes -- always with warmth and genuine interest. Administer basic first aid and respond to incidents appropriately and calmly. Build trusted relationships with parents and carers, promoting open communication. Collect children safely from school as needed and ensure smooth handovers at the end of the day. Take part in team planning, reflective practice, and training opportunities. Follow and uphold all PWKC policies and procedures, including safeguarding and equality.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Experience working with children aged 4-11 in a play or learning environment Enthusiastic, compassionate, and committed to inclusive practice Confident in leading a small team with a positive and supportive approach Willing to take on responsibility Strong understanding of child development and playwork principles Good communication and interpersonal skills Level 3 qualification in Playwork, Childcare, or a related field Proactive, organised, and dependable Able to build warm, respectful relationships with children and adults Fluent spoken and written English to ensure children's safety and wellbeing Experience in liaising with schools and families Competence in intermediate administration or IT systems Able to drive/valid drivers licence

Desirable:



Paediatric First Aid Certificate (12-hour) Child Protection / Safeguarding training Food Hygiene Certificate
