Deputy Nursery Manager Position

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, dedicated and inspirational deputy nursery manager to lead our team at our amazing Churt Nursery School.

Dottie Tots is a small, family-owned and managed group of nurseries, and we are looking for an outstanding and experienced manager to join our friendly team at our Churt location. The successful candidate will help develop and enhance the business, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to our overall leadership team as they support and collaborate with other managers and deputies across our settings.

Main Purpose of the Role



To work with the nursery manager to lead and inspire the nursery team.

In the absence of the nursery manager, the deputy manager will undertake the overall day-to-day management of the nursery.

To deliver the highest quality of care by creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing child-centred environment that meets the educational and developmental needs of each child.

To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children in our nursery. This includes ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and development of our provision.

You will have a proven track record of establishing strong working partnerships with parents in your current or previous setting.

Key Responsibilities as Deputy Nursery Manager



Team Management and Development



To support the nursery manager to lead and manage the team, motivating them with a shared sense of direction, pride and energy which is underpinned by the leadership team across all the settings.

To support the nursery manager with the induction and overall management of all nursery staff.

Supporting the nursery manger in monitoring all nursery staff and student placements, to ensure the effectiveness of service delivery in line with the nursery's policies, procedures and core values.

Supporting the nursery manager in identifying staff training and developmental needs.

Supporting the nursery manager to Plan, manage and implement supervision meetings and appraisals.

Operational Responsibilities



Supporting the nursery manager to develop and manage the operational framework and standards to ensure the nursery always operates smoothly.

Supporting the nursery manager to maintain the necessary standards, ratios, and conditions of registration consistently.

Serving as the Designated Safeguarding Lead when the nursery manager is absent and ensuring adherence to the nursery's safeguarding procedures and undertake regular training to fulfil the requirements of the DSL role. A separate job description for this role will be given.

Ensuring the highest standards of safety and security within the nursery.

To support the nursery manager to establish appropriate emergency procedures.

To support the nursery manager with all health and safety matters within the nursery.

Always Ensuring compliance with the nursery's health and safety policy and procedures.

Curriculum Development and Childcare Practice



To support the nursery manager to ensure that the planning and organisation of a quality educational provision is carried out to meet our curriculum and standards. Taking into consideration any equality and inclusion requirements.

To support the nursery manager to develop and implement initiatives that support children ensuring their individual needs are met within the setting.

To support the nursery manager to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum provided and identifying areas for development.

To support the nursery manager to ensure that individual records of all children's education developmental progress are kept, based on regular observations.

Record Keeping and Reports



Ensuring the safe storage of all information and appropriate access to it, in order to guarantee compliance with data protection legislation.

Parental Involvement



Building and maintaining relationships while sharing information effectively.

Encouraging positive relationships with parents and carers through daily communication, and supporting the nursery manager to promptly address any issues or concerns that may arise.

Promoting parental and carer involvement in all aspects of nursery operations.

Working together with parents to ensure a consistently high standard of customer care.

Liaison with Outside Agencies



To support the nursery manager to develop links and a close working relationship with Surrey County Council's Early Years Team and other necessary agencies to ensure that the nursery receives all information and support available.

Attitude



Participating in and contributing to regular management and operational meetings with the management and leadership teams.

Attending local authority meetings where appropriate.

Attending training courses and cascading to the team where appropriate.

Performing additional tasks related to the position as needed.

Adopting a flexible approach to the nursery's operations in response to the needs of children, families, and staff.

Carrying out all responsibilities associated with the role in accordance with the nursery's equal opportunities policy.

Person Specification



To be considered for this position, you will need the following qualifications, training, and experience:

Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.

Hold a Level 3 qualification in early years education and childcare, or an equivalent certification, along with a commitment to pursuing further qualifications.

A good standard of numeracy and literacy.

A minimum of two years of relevant supervisory experience.

In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). - Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to meet targets and deadlines effectively.

A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving, coupled with strong analytical skills.

Good knowledge with Health and Safety legislation and Environmental Health.

Knowledge of Ofsted standards is compulsory, experience with Ofsted inspections desirable.

A keen attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of excellence.

Exceptional communication skills for effective liaison with parents, staff and others.

Strong IT proficiency.
