Binn Group is Scotland's leading independent provider of integrated waste management solutions. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a disciplined and proactive Assistant Operations Manager to support the management of our recycling and aggregate yards in Glenfarg.
This is a key leadership role designed for someone who balances operational excellence with a "safety-first" mindset. You will be the bridge between senior management and ground operations, ensuring our facility remains efficient, compliant, and productive.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Service
Partner with the Operations Manager to plan staffing levels and daily resource allocation across the recycling and aggregate yards.
Oversee and coordinate tipping operations to maximize site throughput and efficiency.
Ensure clear, effective communication across the site via daily briefings and radio coordination with the weighbridge and plant operators.
Step in to provide holiday/emergency cover on mobile plant (Wheel Shovel/360 Grab) as required.
Safety & Compliance (SHEQ)
Work alongside the Operations Manager and H&S Manager to uphold statutory health and safety duties.
Supervise internal and external customers on-site to ensure safe material deposition.
Lead by example: conduct Tool Box Talks, challenge unsafe behaviors, and ensure all team members adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Inspect incoming loads for non-conforming materials, ensuring accurate recording and escalation.
Technical & People Management
Supervise, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
Coordinate with the workshop and maintenance teams to schedule plant repairs, minimising business interruption.
Utilise waste operating systems and IT platforms to monitor data and reporting.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate who is ready to take the next step in their management career within the environmental or circular economy sector.
Experience: Proven track record in a supervisory or management role, specifically within a high-volume industrial environment (waste, aggregates, or logistics).
Technical Skill: Competent mobile plant operator (Wheel Shovel/360 Grab) with a full UK Driving License.
Communication: Ability to deliver clear instructions and maintain professional relationships across all departments.
Growth Mindset: IT literate and a strong willingness to gain further professional qualifications, such as IOSH.
Must have RIGHT to work in the UK.
