About the role

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has an exciting new opportunity for an Assistant Professor in Transport, and is looking for a highly able, enthusiastic and well-motivated individual wishing to develop a career in a world leading teaching and research institution.



The Department has an outstanding international reputation and has been awarded the top rating in every national review of university research held since 1986. The successful candidates will join the Centre for Transport Engineering and Modelling, which hosts the state-of the-art Intelligent Infrastructure and Transport Systems Laboratory, equipped with cutting-edge technology that supports research in autonomous transport, decarbonisation, machine learning, travel behaviour, air transport management, and transport risk & safety, and navigation & positioning.



We welcome applications from outstanding candidates working in established areas of transport such as: engineering, operations, modelling, design, flow & control, economics & econometrics, autonomous systems, logistics, environment & climate change, and planning & policy; but also in newer and emerging areas, including but not limited to; analytics, data science, artificial intelligence, inclusive planning & design, public health, technological innovation, behavioural science, and social justice & inclusion.



The post is full time and open-ended.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


You will plan, resource, and direct an original and impacting research programme in a cutting-edge domain relevant to Transport.



You will:


Formulate an original and potentially significant programme of research and submit research proposals and funding bids to support it Plan, manage, and successfully execute research projects Supervise, train and mentor research students and staff with the highest scientific rigour Disseminate results through leading international journals and conferences Engage with industry and other agencies to identify current challenges for research Maintain a leading and prominent role in the research area(s) Establish meaningful research collaborations with colleagues within the Section, the Department, and the College

You will also contribute to the Department's wide spectrum of Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching through lectures, seminars, course work, tutorials and personal supervision.


What we are looking for

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Planning or another related field.



You will also have a developing national reputation and expertise in a field of research relevant to Transport together with the ability to communicate well, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively.



Experience of preparing grant applications for submission is essential, as is a willingness to engage in collaborative research.



You must also have experience of training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, plus supervising higher degrees (PhD).
