The Tri-borough Learning Disabilities service in Kensington and Chelsea is a well-established team co-located with the RBKC learning disabilities social care team. Providing high quality services for people with learning disabilities. Within this team psychology plays a key role in the development and delivery of these services.
We are seeking an assistant psychologist with a keen interest in working in adult learning disability services. You will demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of the context of services for individuals with learning disabilities and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will undertake work directly with service users with learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour, their carers, family members and other agencies and indirectly as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The person appointed will have a Psychology Degree (first class) or a Masters Degree in Psychology. Knowledge of research methodology, computer literacy, experience of data analysis, and a high level of written communication skills are required.
The service good links with the North London Doctoral Training courses in Clinical Psychology, to which it regularly provides clinical placements to doctoral trainees.
Under close supervision to undertake protocol based psychological assessments of service users. This may include applying psychological tests, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service user's care.
To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in both community and in-patient/residential settings.
To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.
To work with other staff in assessing service user's needs and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
