The Ideal Candidate



We are growing pretty fast and looking for a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our friendly settled and welcoming team.

You will ideally have a couple of years' experience working in construction and now looking to progress your career. Experience in the groundworks sector would be a big advantage! You will need to be able to demonstrate you can work on your own initiative with guidance from the Managing Surveyor. You will need to be keen to learn and develop your existing skills to support the operations team deliver several projects. This role is varied and will require a flexible and collaborative approach.

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in managing costs, contracts, and procurement processes to ensure projects are completed within budget. The role will be office based in the Midlands with the requirement for travel to visit the sites. The roles and responsibilities will include:

1. Cost Management & Estimation



Assisting in preparing cost estimates and budgets for residential projects. Supporting in cost planning and feasibility studies. Assisting with preparing bills of quantities (BOQ) and tender documents.

2. Procurement & Contract Administration



Assisting with the preparation and development of the Procurement Schedules and project plans. Assisting in procuring subcontractors, materials, and services. Helping with evaluating supplier and contractor quotations. Supporting the preparation and administration of contracts and consultant agreements. Knowledge of the JCT Design and Build Contract 2016 and 2024 editions. Ability to identify the most appropriate form of contract for a given use. Ability to be able to enforce contracts with support from line manager.

3. Measurement & Valuation



Measuring quantities from drawings and site visits using Bluebeam. Assisting in preparing valuations and variations. Supporting monthly valuations and payment applications. Checking and Processing sub-contractor applications and certifications, including preparing and issuing Payment and Payless Notices.

4. Financial Reporting & Budget Control



Assisting in tracking project costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Preparing reports on cost forecasts and budget variances. Supporting the management of project cash flow and payments. Preparing monthly CVR's for presentation to the business.

5. Site Visits & Progress Monitoring



Conducting site visits to check progress and verify completed works. Assisting in assessing contractor claims and variations. Supporting the preparation of site progress reports.

6. Compliance & Risk Management



Ensuring adherence to building regulations and contract terms. Assisting in risk assessment and mitigation strategies. Supporting compliance with health & safety and sustainability standards.

7. Stakeholder Coordination



Liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers. Assisting in resolving commercial and contractual issues. Supporting collaboration between design, engineering, production and commercial teams.

Contract Summary:
