We are recruiting for a Quarry Manager - Section to join and lead our fantastic Quarrying team here at our Tarmac Mancetter Quarry site, close to Atherstone in Warwickshire. The role is easily commutable from Atherstone, Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinkley, Burbage, Tamworth, Coleshill, Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Leicester, Ibstock, Bardon Hill, Coalville, Lichfield and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

The Quarry Manager - Section will report directly to the Operations Manager and will manage quarrying operations, along with this you will also manage the small Asphalt plant on site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Quarry Manager - Section (not exhaustive):

  • Responsible for managing, coach and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
  • You will lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
  • Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material
  • Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
  • Understanding of the Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Reg 8 appointment (either C or D) or be willing to learn
  • Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
  • Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
  • Issue of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
  • Manage proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
  • Collate and report on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations Manager and drive operational performance through KPI\'s
Key Stakeholders you will liaise within the responsibilities of this role:
  • Plant Manager - Site Manager - Site Maintenance Manager - Health & Safety team - Procurement and support teams - National Logistics team - Area Operations teams - Area Commercial teams - Area HR Manager - Industry Bodies - Customers
This role is a Days role, but flexibility is key to this role with the expectation to be available to meet with our plant\'s operational needs

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate for the position of Quarry Manager - Section you will have experience and knowledge of:

Experience and Qualifications
  • Experienced in Quarrying Operations
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
  • Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology - or would be willing to commence learning
  • SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6 - or would be willing to commence learning
  • Knowledge of Asphalt production would be highly beneficial; although not essential as training will be provided
  • Good knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
  • Strong IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages - Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multitask and manage change
