About the Role:

Actively involved in delivery of Food microbiology, Water microbiology and Water parasitology Proficiency Testing Schemes. Contributing to other projects involving the handling of Hazard Group 2 or 3 organisms (including CBRN related projects) across Fera. Training and active support and development will be provided as necessary for the post.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll be doing:

  • Accountable for supporting the delivery of microbiological projects in accordance with SOP\xe2\x80\x99s and meeting the appropriate quality criteria. Contributing to method development and reporting results to customers within tight deadlines effectively and efficiently.
  • Support with the preparation and analysis of PT samples using appropriate traditional microbiological and / or molecular methods.
  • Support the delivery leads for Food Microbiology PT rounds and Water Microbiology PT to ensure delivery to PTG as per the agreed timetable.
  • Support with the delivery of other microbiological projects including Biopesticides and CBD safety screening.
  • Support with general CL2 quality requirements including stock monitoring of foodstuffs and reagents/kits, internal quality control checks for equipment and media.
  • Contribute to the development of new methods.
What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:
  • Knowledge and experience of traditional microbiological and molecular methods for food, water and environmental sample analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience of handling ACDP level 2 organisms and desirable to have experience of working in containment level 3 facility.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Ability to learn and implement new laboratory techniques quickly and effectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Self-motivated and have an ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues and other team members across the business.
  • A methodical approach to work and attention to detail.
  • Experience of operating within a quality system (e.g. UKAS or GLP).
  • Good organisational and time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects.
