An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

BACKGROUND TO THE POST



Warwickshire College is looking to appoint a highly qualified and experienced practitioner to help provide high-quality and effective Additional Learning Support, enabling students with Special Educational Needs to be successful in their studies and raise awareness and provide advice and guidance of SEND and additional support across the college.

The person will support the department with the SEND agenda, working with colleagues on the SEND reforms and the Local Offer, incorporating and reviewing EHC plans.

The person would work with the Heads of Inclusion and the team to meet the needs of an increasing number of students with SEN or from a widening participation priority group.

The post holder will be required to work with the SEN Team Leaders in creating access arrangements for learners with EHCP's or those with evidence of additional needs, as the need arises. They will also help develop support packages for identified learners, starting from transition to a post 16 environment, this will include FE and HE.

The post holder will be required to become a college designated safeguarding person.

There are Inclusion offices at all the college sites and although the post holder would be based at the Morton Morrell campus they will be required to work at other sites on a weekly basis.

The person appointed will report to the Head of Inclusion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Establish and maintain communication with Personal Learning Advisers/MIS Liaison Coordinators / The Inclusion Team and Lecturers to ensure that students with SEN have appropriate support as agreed by the Head of Learning Support. Monitor and contribute to the annual review cycle of EHC plans in line with SEND requirements. To lead and manage a team of SEN Team Leaders and support them in the effective and timely completion of Local Authority placement consultations for EHCP Plan holders, with responsibility for supporting in the completion of responses to consultations for EHCP holders with complex needs. To ensure that SEN Team Leaders are supported in the recruitment, selection and deployment of Learning Mentors. To support the Heads Learning Support in creating a CPD programme for teaching and support staff to meet the needs of SEN learners. Work with the Head Learning Support on securing local authority funding for additional learning support and High Needs learners. To operate within a learning process that maximises opportunities and resources and is responsive to the needs of existing and potential learners, thereby ensuring a high quality, inclusive learning environment. To use innovative, high quality, learning methods, modes of delivery and resources that will enable the College to progress inclusive learning in accordance with information emanating from initial and diagnostic assessment, allocated schemes of work and assessment schedules. Continue with professional development by liaising with external agencies as necessary. Create a culture of continuous improvement that delivers agreed quality standards within the area. To attend college delivered 'Teaching Essentials' training

In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.

LEAVE ENTITLEMENT



The College offers a generous leave entitlement to support staff, of 38 days leave (includes 25 days leave, 8 statutory Bank Holidays, 4 College closure days at Christmas and an annual Relaxed Day) pro rata for part time. This will rise to 41 days after 5 years' service.

HOURS OF WORK



The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, normally 37 hours per week.

PLACE OF WORK



The principal place of work will be the College's premises based at our Moreton Morrell College. However, the post holder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises at which we may provide services.

PERSON SPECIFICATION



Essential

Attainments

:

GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 equivalent qualification. Academic qualification at Level 4 (or equivalent). SEN specialist qualification at Level 3 or above. Hold or be willing to undertake a teaching qualification (AET). Experience of teaching or supporting learners with SEN. Experience of managing a team.
