About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the West Ham United Retail department for a proactive and motivated Assistant Store Manager to join our team at the Basildon Store.
The successful candidate will support the Store Manager in the daily operations of the store, helping to drive sales, deliver exceptional customer service, and maintain high retail standards. This individual will also be responsible for overseeing the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
Operating in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, we are looking for someone who thrives under pressure, leads by example, and has a passion for retail and team development. This role presents an excellent opportunity to join a growing business with potential for future progression.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Store Manager in meeting and exceeding sales targets and operational goals
Take ownership of matchday operations, including management of over 65 staff members
Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, and training
Review individual and team performance targets on a daily basis
Provide team leadership through effective communication, clear planning, and support
Take responsibility for store operations in the absence of the Store Manager, including drawing up daily action plans
Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service at all times
Drive improvements in customer conversion and average transaction values
Take a hands-on approach to visual merchandising, store replenishment, and shop floor standards
Oversee store administration, including banking, payroll documentation, and till reconciliation
Review weekly trading reports to assess product performance and respond to any emerging trends
Conduct quarterly performance reviews and provide regular feedback to team members
Ensure compliance with all health and safety guidelines and retail operational procedures
Support internal audits and stockroom/shop floor checks
Provide cross-functional support to other stores or departments as required (e.g. during peak trading periods such as Black Friday and Christmas)

Essential:
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a retail environment
Strong customer service background with a passion for delivering outstanding experiences
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to lead, motivate and manage a team
High level of attention to detail with strong organisational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Good level of numeracy and written English
Desirable:
Previous management or supervisory experience within retail
Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced store environment
Knowledge of West Ham United Football Club and retail merchandising practices
