We're looking for a hands-on Assistant Manager who thrives on leading from the front -- not from behind a desk. This role is perfect for someone who's as comfortable rolling up their sleeves on the warehouse floor as they are managing performance, motivating teams, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
If you're energetic, people-focused, and driven by results, this could be the opportunity to make your mark in a busy, fast-moving distribution environment.
The Role
As Assistant Manager - Warehouse Operations, you'll play a key role in the heart of our Distribution Centre. You'll lead and support teams across both Stock Control and Pick & Pack areas -- ensuring accuracy, productivity, and quality standards are met every day.
You'll be the main presence on the shop floor, actively supporting your team, solving problems on the spot, and ensuring everyone is pulling together toward shared goals. You'll also act as deputy to the Distribution Centre Manager, taking charge in their absence to maintain performance and workflow continuity.
This is a dynamic, physical role -- ideal for someone who enjoys being involved, leading by example, and getting the job done.
Key ResponsibilitiesHands-On Operations
Work directly alongside your team in Stock Control and Pick & Pack areas.
Oversee daily operations -- ensuring targets are met and standards are upheld.
Keep workflow smooth by tackling bottlenecks, resolving issues, and keeping communication open.
Use ERP/SAP systems to manage stock and reporting -- but spend most of your time where the action is.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across workflow, layout, and efficiency.
Team Leadership & People Management
Lead, motivate, and develop a team of 20-30 warehouse operatives.
Plan daily workloads, assign duties, and monitor productivity and morale.
Conduct training, appraisals, and ongoing coaching -- ensuring everyone understands what good looks like.
Communicate clearly during shift briefings and act as the go-to leader on the floor.
Foster a strong team culture built on respect, accountability, and teamwork.
Stock Control & Accuracy
Maintain tight control over inbound and outbound stock movement.
Lead cycle counts, rolling stocktakes, and full inventory checks.
Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
Keep storage areas well-organised, labelled, and audit-ready.
Pick & Pack Management
Ensure picking and packing teams hit targets without compromising accuracy or quality.
Coordinate order priorities, packaging materials, and dispatch workflows.
Maintain a tidy, safe, and efficient working environment.
Health, Safety & Standards
Enforce PPE, housekeeping, and safety standards daily.
Conduct routine checks for fire safety, pest control, and hygiene.
Lead by example -- safety and teamwork are everyone's responsibility.
What We're Looking For
We're not looking for someone who hides behind spreadsheets -- we want a leader who's visible, approachable, and involved.
You'll have:
2+ years in a warehouse, logistics, or stock control management role.
Proven team leadership and coaching experience.
A strong grasp of warehouse systems (SAP or similar).
Good computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook) -- but more importantly, common sense and initiative.
A proactive, energetic attitude with a "lead by doing" approach.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Confidence in managing people, priorities, and pressure.
Performance Goals
Stock accuracy & audit compliance
Pick & Pack productivity & accuracy
On-time order completion
Replenishment turnaround & stock variance control
Team engagement, attendance, and training completion
Safety & site standards maintained daily
