What's the role?
We are seeking an experienced Assoc. Director of Data Engineering to lead our data engineering function and play a key role in our data strategy. You will be responsible for both the strategic direction of our data platform and the day-to-day management of the data engineering team, developing robust data infrastructure that integrates our core systems, establishes master data management, and enables advanced analytics capabilities. This role requires a deep understanding of fund administration data and the ability to translate business needs into effective data solutions.
What you'll be doing
Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for our data platform, aligning with broader business objectives and technology strategy
Lead the design and implementation of data architecture, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and master data management solutions
Manage a team of data engineers and BI specialists, providing technical leadership, mentorship, and career development
Oversee the development and maintenance of data pipelines, data models, and data integration processes using technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran
Drive the adoption of best practices for data engineering, including data governance, data quality, and data security
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and automation through data integration and advanced analytics
Lead initiatives to establish golden records and master data management across the organization
Explore and implement AI/ML capabilities that leverage our data assets to enhance products and services
Partner with other technology leaders to ensure alignment between data platform capabilities and enterprise architecture
Balance strategic initiatives with operational support, ensuring reliable performance of data systems
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in data engineering and analytics
The ideal background for this role:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; Master's degree preferred
Minimum of 8 years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior or leadership role
Strong technical expertise in data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and data modelling
Hands-on experience with modern data stack technologies including Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran
Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Qlik
Demonstrated ability to design and implement large-scale data architectures
Experience leading and managing technical teams, with a focus on mentorship and talent development
Deep understanding of fund administration processes and associated data structures
Knowledge of data governance, data quality management, and data security principles
Experience implementing master data management solutions
Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application in financial services
Strong project management skills with ability to balance strategic initiatives and operational support
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to business stakeholders
Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
Experience in financial services, particularly in fund administration, is essential
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across the organization
Excellent communication skills in English

This role will be based in our Southampton office, with up to four days on-site per week required. Although the nature of most of the roles within Gen II cannot be classed as totally flexible, there is scope in some cases for a form of Agile Working. The different ways in which Agile Working can be undertaken is dependent on the demands and needs of the business, the office space available and the individual's preferences and circumstances.
