Job Description


The Associate Director position is for an individual with a strong background in mechanical and electrical (M&E) design and operation, specializing in energy efficiency in the built environment. They should have a passion for innovation and driving change. The role involves leading the energy consultancy core team, reporting directly to the Head of Energy Consultancy and Net Zero.

You will join a world-wide corporate real estate management organisation with an ambition to reduce environmental impact, and drive best sustainable practises in the real estate sector. By adopting science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets (decarbonisation plan by 2040 Net Zero).

Key Responsibilities

Technical Skills

  • Delivering Energy Audits and decarbonization plans, including the capability to deliver Investment Grade Audits (IGA) and Proposals (IGP).
  • Analyzing metered energy data, building energy management system (BeMS) logs, and operational information to identify opportunities for energy reduction and building performance optimization.
  • Conducting energy surveys and audits for various building types, identifying measures for savings in lighting, HVAC, metering, fabric, central plant, infrastructure, and renewables.
  • Preparing life cycle cost analysis for energy-saving opportunities.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, providing outputs such as benchmarking, load profile review, regression analysis, and developing spreadsheet-based energy and carbon scenario models to support energy and carbon reduction strategies for clients with large building portfolios.
  • Determining potential carbon and energy savings, costs, and payback for energy measures. Conducting options appraisals and specifying energy-efficient and low-carbon retrofit projects. Developing and implementing Net Zero strategies and Roadmaps for decarbonization of client assets.
  • Developing and preparing detailed energy audits/studies, including pricing solicitation, economic analysis, technical specifications, briefing papers, and presentations to communicate findings and outputs. Quality auditing of others work.
  • Identifying and converting leads to projects in the external real estate market, expanding coverage across market sectors.
Business Development
  • Developing and maintaining key client relationships, maximizing opportunities for repeat business.
  • Building a network of clients and colleagues to identify opportunities and grow the service line.
  • Managing contracts, budgets, and costs to ensure profitable growth for the energy consultancy core team.
  • Training and developing junior team members.
  • Collaborating with the wider Environmental Consultancy group and Engineering Consultancy teams within CBRE and the wider National business.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with professional bodies and industry partners to stay updated on technical and market developments.
  • Enhancing the exposure of the Energy Consultancy team in the built environment, attending and speaking at industry events and conferences.
  • Sharing industry knowledge within the Energy Management team and wider Environmental Consultancy group.
  • Innovating processes, products, and services to drive efficiencies, supporting other team initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in MEP design field, ideally with a masters degree in Energy Engineering.
  • Significant professional experience in design engineering consultancies, energy consultancy or contractor firms with a focus on energy engineering. Commercial experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and significant experience in MEP design, thermodynamics (especially HVAC), BMS operation principles, and building operation (FM/PM).
  • Experience delivering Energy Audits, preferably including high-level and investment-grade audits.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate clear messages and outcomes.
  • Experience coordinating consultants and site engineers to deliver outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, assertiveness, and confidence.
  • Ability to engage and educate diverse stakeholder groups, including project teams and design/construction/real estate professionals.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of commitment, willingness to learn, and ability to work in a dynamic, deadline-driven team environment.
  • Proven project management experience.
