Job SummaryThe role of Group Public and Regulatory Affairs (GPRA) is to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, driving the alignment of the Bank's strategy and global public policy, regulatory and supervisory objectives. The remit of the Group covers policy, regulatory and supervisory issues emanating in key markets and developing engagement strategies that position the Bank in a constructive manner.
GPRA is organised internally into three teams:

• Government Affairs
• Regulatory Engagement
• Strategic Policy Insights

The Associate Director of Government Affairs for European Union (EU) sits within the Government Affairs team, working closely with Regulatory Engagement while under the direct supervision of the Head of Government Affairs, Europe and Americas.
The Associate Director collaborates with other GPRA team members and business partners across the region to design and operationalise government engagement with European governments and institutions.
The Associate Director is responsible for supporting the Head of Government Affairs, Europe & Americas with designing and implementing the Bank's government engagement strategy across the EU.Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively across GPRA to align on policy, regulatory, and thematic priorities.
• Demonstrate a successful track record of operating in a partnership style within a complex, global matrix organization, focusing on designing and implementing engagement strategies.
• Monitor and track relevant policy and political developments, including government-to-government diplomatic meetings.
• Draft internal notes on important policy and political developments, as well as briefing notes for senior executives attending meetings in Brussels.
• Work collaboratively with GPRA partners, the Head of Government Affairs, Europe and Americas, and the business to design and implement engagement strategies that achieve outcomes for GPRA's policy imperatives and thematic topics.
• Identify critical internal stakeholders and partners for the region's engagement strategy.
• Ensure GPRA strategies align with the Bank's strategic direction and growth aspirations.
• Provide robust challenge to stakeholders, escalating as necessary to achieve oversight and ownership.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with key business and functional stakeholders based on trust, capability, and integrity, providing timely and responsive support.
• Develop simple and effective processes across GPRA pillars, refining outputs for external constituencies.
• Support management MI/trackers for comprehensive Government Affairs coverage and responsibility.

Skills and Experience

• Experience in European Union institutions and policymaking in the EU and across EU member states
• Strong track record in delivering strategic engagement programmes
• Fluent on the key policy issues facing a global trade finance bank (e.g., trade, foreign policy, financial markets, sustainable finance, technology-related policy , etc.)
• Will have a network across Continental European governments and institutions, particularly where the bank has an office (e.g., Brussels, Germany, France, Poland and Sweden)
• Ability to write policy notes & meeting briefs
• University degree, preferably in Legal, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or International Relations
• English (Optional French and / or German)
