Job summary:


This role is responsible for the output of the tax function. The individual will oversee the organisation's clients tax reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. This role involves managing tax compliance in numerous jurisdictions to ensure entities are compliant with all reporting required, reviewing tax advice, and supporting business operations by monitoring when tax advice and compliance are required. The role holder will work closely with senior management across multiple jurisdictions to develop and implement tax policies and procedures to ensure client entities are compliant with all tax requirements.

Job accountabilities:


Setting goals for the function which align with the overall Group strategy to ensure the specialised support given to the business is at the highest quality.
Working with Directors/Relations Partners across various jurisdictions to set fees and agree billing responsibilities, to ensure profitability of the Tax function.
Provides a practical level of theoretical and technical tax expertise and procedures in order to successfully deliver the tax function and develop recommendations for change.
Overseeing the preparation of filing UK, Guernsey, Jersey, IOM and BVI company annual tax returns,
Overseeing the preparation of any other tax reporting requirements in those jurisdictions for both companies and trusts, including VAT and ATED.
Overseeing the preparation of filing of the Groups tax returns in the UK and Crown Dependencies.
Overseeing the preparation of offshore trust IHT returns and stockpiled gains and relevant income calculations.
Audit and Risk Management: Manage tax audits and enquires with tax authorities where inhouse tax are the engaged agent, ensuring minimal financial and reputational risk.
Leadership and Team Management: Lead and develop the tax team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
Training and development: Overseeing and providing tax training and support for the wider staff to ensure the organisation is aware of tax legislative changes
Internal Collaboration: Work with other departments to provide tax-related support for business operations and transactions.
Policy Development: Develop and implement internal tax policies and procedures.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on tax legislation changes and best practices, recommending process improvements as necessary.

Minimum education and experience


Educated to degree standard or equivalent experience..
Professional qualification such as a CTA qualification.
Requires deeper and more complex knowledge through having at least 8-10 years of progressive experience in tax compliance, including experience in a leadership role.
Experience in UK company and trust tax is essential.

Required skills


Ability to engage and communicate/present complex information concisely and to a non-technical audience and the ability to explain and defend own and/or team reports.
Ability to set and promote the correct organisational culture and values and act as a figure head/business advocate for the path forward.
Deep knowledge of policies, procedure, regulations and legislation in operational area, and up to date knowledge of external issues (legislative, regulatory, best practice standards, etc.) that affect client servicing area in order to be able to affect change in the business in line with the industry standards.
Able to influence across jurisdictions for the benefit of the business.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to apply those skills to resolve client requirements.
Excellent planning and organisational skills along with the ability to tackle multiple workstreams while meeting tight deadlines.
Proactive and self-motivated, with a desire to identify opportunities and take ownership for implementing improvements.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing and reviewing tax documents.
