A brilliant opportunity has arisen due to continued success and growth for an Chartered Highways Engineer to take on an Associate level position in an extremely well regarded multi-disciplinary that currently has over 1000 staff in their 6 UK offices.

You will be joining their Highways team that works on projects from Local Authorities, National Highways, and a key D&B Contractor. You will be responsible for these projects throughout their lifecycle, from concept to delivery and it will be your job to liaise with the client, manage technical output, budget management and much more. You will be given responsibility for your own team and sit directly under the Highways Director, giving you a real voice in a fantastic consultancy.

In order to be successful in your application you will need to present a strong technical background, alongside experience of taking the lead on projects such as Active Travel, Highway Alignments, A Road Duallings etc.

Associate Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering design and consultancy services on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
  • Management of design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/ construction teams, project management, costing and ensure progress against the project brief.
  • Check calculations and production of detailed drawings to ensure engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
  • Time, cost, quality, resource and delivery management including communication with the department and management to ensure that resource and project requirements are clearly understood and met.
  • Produce comprehensive civil and structural design packages for all aspects of civil and structural design.
  • Lead the delivery of civil and structural design packages across multiple projects, as part of a single or multi discipline design team, carry out any or all stages of civil and structural design from concept to completion across sectors including rail, science and technology, waste to energy, aviation and healthcare.
Associate Required Experience:
  • Chartered Member of ICE or CIHT (or Equivalent)
  • Significant experience of delivering projects in at least one sector that BakerHicks operates in, including managing commercial elements of projects.
  • Carry out technical design reviews/critiques of projects in process
  • Assist in the mentoring and development of more junior engineers including training and planning
  • Fully Conversant with current codes, standards and responsibilities under CDM and health and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to work within a fully integrated, multi-discipline design team.
