About the Role
In this role you will be working in a team structure including 4 partners, 4 Of Counsel/associates, 2 paralegals and 2 legal secretaries and will fill the role of Associate to the Finance Group in the London office of Maples and Calder.
The successful candidate will work on an active portfolio of repackaging vehicles of various investment banks, Cayman Islands listings, real estate finance and fund finance matters, other structured finance programmes, derivatives and general corporate and banking opinion work.
Associates will enjoy an unrivalled exposure to quality and visible transactions and will be provided the opportunity to build their profile in the market. The team works very closely with the other London practice areas and Maples Group offices to ensure a seamless and comprehensive service for its domestic and international clients.
The responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
Liaising with investment banks, legal teams at onshore law firms, local directors of SPVs and registered agents/administrators
Drafting of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands deal documents from precedents
Drafting listing documents and liaising with the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange on listings
Reviewing standard transaction documents from onshore counsel
Advising on structured finance matters including securitisations, structured fund products, derivatives, repackagings and CLOs
Working on real estate investment and development financing matters
Acting for a client base comprising domestic and international clients and acting for both lenders and borrowers.
Engaging in business development activities, being active in the promotion of the firm and seeking opportunities for new work and cross-selling.
Working as part of a team, including taking an active part in sharing knowledge and experience within the team
EXPERIENCE
What You Bring
The successful candidate will have strong technical skills, a strong work ethic and a commitment to building a legal career within the offshore banking and finance space. The ideal candidate will have the ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues and work well in a team environment. The candidate's qualifications and experience will also include:
At least 5 years' post qualification experience in banking and finance
Both experience and training should have been completed with a leading law firm in a major onshore or offshore jurisdiction
A strong academic background, with excellent written communication and drafting skills
Excellent technical knowledge and a strong commercial awareness
Highly organised, strong transactional management skills, self-motivated and team-orientated
