The School of Psychological Sciences is looking to recruit a part-time, fixed-term Associate Lecturer to teach the module:-
Research Methods 1, level 5
10 teaching sessions, 30 hours teaching
Monday afternoons 2-5pm and evenings 6-9pm, Spring term Jan - March 2026.
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the second half of the Research Methods 1 module, which is a Level 5 module offered as a compulsory part of our BPS-accredited BSc Psychology programme.
This module focuses on experimental design and analysis centred on ANOVA. It covers one-way and factorial designs (between-, within- and mixed-subjects), interpreting main effects and interactions, planned contrasts and post-hoc comparisons with appropriate multiple-comparison control, assumption checks (normality, homogeneity/sphericity) and corrections, effect sizes and power, and clear reporting/visualisation of results. Full materials for all lectures will be provided.
As an Associate Lecturer, you will be working closely with the module convenors to organise, deliver and assess the module.
Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are:
Experience of lecturing to groups of up to 120 students
MSc in Psychology or a related area (required); PhD preferred.
