Do you have a zest for sport marketing and teaching? Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to teach this coming academic year.
Birkbeck Business School is looking to recruit a part-time, Associate Lecturer to teach on the module:
Sport Marketing
16.5 hours of teaching time (plus marking so equivalent to 41.25 hours)
Autumn Term, Fridays 6-7.30pm, 9 weeks (x2 6-9pm) - in-person.
As part of Birkbeck Business School, Sport Marketing is a compulsory Level 7 module for our specialist sport management degrees - MSc Sport Management, MSc Sport Management and Marketing and MSc Sport Management and the Business of Football - and an optional module for students on other MSc programmes.
The module introduces students to the main principles of marketing in the sport context and demonstrates how these principles are relevant for a variety of sport organisations.
It covers various aspects of sport marketing, such as: understanding and segmenting sport consumers; relationship marketing; product and pricing strategies in sport; destination, venue and sport service delivery; creating value through brands; sport promotion and integrated marketing communications; and sport sponsorship.
The module is built on academic research and real-world examples and uses case studies to illustrate key concepts. The person appointed to the position, therefore, should have very good knowledge of sport marketing, a good level of relevant teaching experience and a passion for student engagement and impactful education.
The module is delivered through pre-recorded lectures and curated reading lists that are available to students online and weekly in-person classes. The pre-recorded lectures and reading lists have already been created, and while the person recruited for this role can amend and supplement them, there is no obligation to do so.
This advertised role is primarily to prepare and deliver the in-person classes on the module, as well as to mark assignments.
The in-person classes are not lectures - instead they should be interactive sessions, involving case studies, group discussions, and other relevant teaching exercises. The Module Convenor, named as the key contact on this advert, will oversee the module and support the person recruited for the role.
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are:
Good knowledge of sport marketing
An excellent and innovative teacher, or facilitator, with relevant teaching experience and a passion for student engagement and impactful education
A good understanding of the needs of a wide range of part-time adult learners, and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm
A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle.
If you have knowledge in this area, and you are an excellent and innovative teacher with a track record of student engagement, and want to contribute to an impactful and transformational educational experience - apply with us at Birkbeck today.
