Birkbeck, University of London is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Psychological Sciences and teach on our cognitive psychology courses.



We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team on the Certificate of Higher Education, BSc Foundation Year, and BA Programmes for the following module:


Psychological & Developmental Issues in Childhood and Adolescence, Level 5 30 hours of teaching for 10 weeks Teaching Monday 6-9pm

The module explores the potential impact of a range of developmental and psychological disorders and adverse experiences on children's lives and their education, examining how these issues emerge and evolve over time, and how they interact with individual, family, and sociocultural factors. Your main responsibility will be the preparation, teaching, administration, and assessment of this module.



The module is core for two of our programmes - BA Psychology for Education and BA Psychological Studies (Child Development and Education) and an option on other BA programmes, and is a popular option for students with a particular interest in developmental and child psychology. As such, it will offer you the opportunity to bring your knowledge, expertise and teaching experience to enable these committed students to complete their studies successfully.



In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:


A degree in Psychology. Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector. A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm. A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.

Please note: candidates need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas. The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions on the module.

Salary:





Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate 68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a 'Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier' at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.


Contract:





Fixed-term, three month contract: October-December 2025. Teaching on Monday 6-9pm. Please submit an application form for consideration.
