Purpose:

We are looking for a Staff Associate Investigator with a background in chemistry, or related field, and hands-on experience in chemical process development. The successful applicant will have a vital role assisting the primary investigator in the development and piloting of innovative chemical processes, supporting technology transfer, and small lot manufacturing at our research facility. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and prioritization skills, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: chemical process development, laboratory and small-scale pilot processes design/build/operation, and/or manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a multi-disciplined team to support technology research and development for business growth and renewal.
  • Participate in the different stages of technology research and development, from concept through process demonstration and product development to commercialization.
  • Plan, organize, and execute experiments in a team environment with guidance from a senior scientist and/or engineer.
  • Manage analytical testing for raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
  • Maintain documentation of operating parameters and experimental observations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and participate in all required safety programs, trainings, and activities.
  • Follow Operating Discipline principles, procedures, and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas.
  • Operate and field check process equipment by monitoring process conditions, equipment, and control systems, if necessary.
  • Perform process equipment troubleshooting, equipment repairs, improvements, and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain and improve housekeeping standards.
  • Make decisions related to safety, quality, and operations with minimal supervision.
  • Work in a small lots manufacturing environment on a campaign basis.
Qualifications

What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

The candidate must have a college diploma in chemistry or a Bachelor\'s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

Education \xe2\x80\x93 Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:
  • 0-5 years of professional experience in hands-on chemical process development.
  • Experience specifying, assembling, and operating lab and/or pilot-scale chemical process equipment.
  • Experience in a lab setting and knowledge of general lab safety processes and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for writing reports, operating instructions, and authoring or revising procedures.
  • Strong analytical, technical, data organization, and computer skills.
  • Strong planning and reporting skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to understand process safety procedures.
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with lab to pilot scale-up.
  • Research experience in a laboratory setting
  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, process, production chemistry, structural, electrical, instrumentation, control systems, and operations.
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID, mass & energy balance, Process Hazard Analysis.
  • Strong desire to commercialize technology and have a results-oriented mentality.
  • Experience working with equipment suppliers and contractors.
