We are currently recruiting for an Associate Science Consultant within our Underwater Physiology team. The team specialises in diving and hyperbaric environments for the analysis of extreme environments.

You\'ll be involved in the development of input to the Diving and Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survival capability areas. You\'ll have the chance to train in a hands-on environment, supporting a diverse range of underwater projects across the QinetiQ portfolio. You will learn within a niche environment, to provide support for our military and commercial clients in the UK and overseas. You\'ll also have the opportunity to work alongside our multi-disciplinary teams.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to develop within a unique environment, working with a variety of client organisations. You\'ll have the opportunity to work as part of a team on experimental studies for research and consultancy tasks. You\'ll also be involved in some incredibly exciting experiments, which may include; laboratory-based experiments, use QinetiQ or customer-based facilities, as well as involvement with field trials.

What will I be doing?

Working in a team, you will be responsible for working in project teams. Supporting you in this hands-on role, you\'ll provide support of physiological and physical aspects of diving and hyperbaric expertise into multi-disciplinary projects.

With hands-on learning, you will be responsible for:

  • Conduct H&SE and MoD diving investigations, with support and supervision initially from the diving principal scientist
  • Support diving principal scientist as MoD representative at Diving
standards working groups. Provide advice to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for issues in diving and SMERAS issues in human physiology * Conduct analyses for diving and hyperbaric related research and consultancy tasks and diving equipment usage.
  • Aid in designing elements of trials to support equipment design and/or testing at various stages of development, covering such aspects as anthropometry human factors, work of breathing and assessment against standards and diving regulations.
What do I need?

You\'ll need experience in some of the following areas:
  • A bachelor\'s degree in one of the following areas;
- Physics with a good understanding of biology (such as an A-level)
- Physics with computing
- Medical Physics
- Biology with a good understanding of physics * Membership of and working towards chartership status with the Institute of Physics or the Royal Society of Biology

The following experience would be highly desirable:
  • Holding a Master\'s degree or doctorate in a relevant field of study
  • Ideally, in combination with good Biology / Physiology A-level or a recognised Diving Medical Technician qualification
  • Domain Experience Including; Defence, Military diving, Military submarines, Commercial diving, Tunneling, Medical Hyperbarics
  • An understanding of Human Factors
