Our Practice Area

The Global Tax Group supports clients by bringing insight to the business and legal intricacies of the full spectrum of international tax matters. The Group is widely recognized for its forward-thinking approach, having handled numerous precedent-setting global firsts.

As an associate in our London office, your work will be varied and fast-paced, handling a wide range of cross-border transactional and advisory matters for private equity houses, financial institutions, multinational companies and sovereign wealth funds. From the moment you join, you will be given significant responsibility\xe2\x80\x94undertaking such tasks as coordinating communications within your team and with clients, liaising with foreign counsel, stress-testing tax structures, verifying UK tax summaries and reviewing due diligence reports.

A fast-paced practice with a high turnover of matters, the workload can be intense but is always rewarding\xe2\x80\x94especially in terms of the excellent opportunities for professional development. You will often be working in international, multidisciplinary teams\xe2\x80\x94learning from colleagues within the Global Tax Group, and leading lawyers across practices as varied as M&A, Capital Markets and Real Estate.

Position Summary

We are looking for associates with interest and experience in taxation law to join our London office.

In addition to strong academic credentials, you should possess a good breadth of legal and commercial knowledge, excellent technical skills, and the logical rigor to grasp the tax intricacies of cross-border structuring, advisory and transactional matters.

Excited by the challenge of developing and implementing complex tax structures, you should combine an eye for detail with the creativity and confidence to devise innovative solutions. Given the rapid pace of our practice, you will need to be highly organized\xe2\x80\x94comfortable meeting tight deadlines, managing multiple workstreams, and producing flawless tax analyses in a timely fashion.

Both oral and written communication skills will be major assets\xe2\x80\x94enabling you to convey complex information to colleagues and clients in a way that is clear and succinct. A team player with a global mindset, you should be excited by the opportunity to work alongside lawyers across the firm\xe2\x80\x99s international offices and practices.

Self-motivated, you will need to display a willingness to take ownership of projects, and a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset that allows you to anticipate clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs and independently develop tax-efficient solutions that fit their businesses.

  • Experience on advising on numerous commercial contracts in a tax context, in particular share and asset purchases, credit agreements, bond documents (e.g. offering memoranda, purchase agreements, indentures, trust deeds etc.), corporate approvals, offering circulars etc
Location and Reporting
  • This is a London based role with potential for international travel
  • This role reports to Laura Hoyland and Will Smith.
