The Associate Web Content Designer sits in the web team, part of External Affairs and Communications.
The web team is a multidisciplinary team of content, product and delivery experts. We use data and evidence to drive the continuous improvement of the website making it simpler and easier for people to understand and use.
This is an exciting time for the web team as we evolve our web content strategy and content operations to support a usable, sustainable, accessible website into the future. The Associate Web Content Designer role will evolve as this work progresses over the coming months.
As an Associate Web Content Designer, your role will be to ensure our core business as usual web content is of a high standard, meets the needs of external audiences and is published in a timely way.
You will edit and publish content across the UKRI site, working within agreed timeframes and web standards. You will work alongside delivery team members, other content designers and subject expert colleagues across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
The Associate Web Content Designer works with delivery team members and other content designers on the editing and publishing of our core web content. This content includes funding opportunities, impact stories, blog posts, publications, areas of investment and support and news.
You will ensure content we publish on the website aligns with the web content strategy and meets UKRI's content quality standards.
You will work closely with stakeholders and subject experts across the organisation to ensure web content is high quality, accurate and accessible.
Edit & Publish New Content and Updates
Use your professional expertise in content to review, edit and publish content ensuring it meets the web proposition, user needs and house style
Source a broad range of imagery for use on the site, giving guidance to colleagues and ensuring image use on the website meets accessibility standards and brand guidelines
Develop and publish HTML publications in support of our aim of reducing the number of PDFs we publish
Manage your daily workload using tools including our web helpdesk and Asana operating within defined web team workflows and processes
Provide an on-call publishing service, participating in an out of hours rota
Content Standards & Quality
Review colleagues' drafts in the content management system, working with the Content Designer to implement effective and efficient processes to streamline and improve the way we quality assure content
Monitor site performance and quality, highlighting and resolving issues to ensure standards are maintained
Carry out regular removal of content from the site as part of regular archiving activity
Stakeholder Management & Relationships
Actively participate in daily stand ups to update on workload and share issues
Cover coordination of the web helpdesk when required, which includes the allocation of day-to-day workload of incoming web content tasks including prioritisation and stakeholder engagement
Reschedule work based on new or changing priorities, reacting quickly and providing clear communication to colleagues
Build collaborative working relationships across the web team and the organisation
Continuous Improvement
Support continuous improvement across the website, participating in content improvement projects
Work within and support Government Digital Service (GDS) standards
Support the continuous improvement of systems, workflows, planning and tools to initiate improvements and improve team processes and efficiency
An associate content designer is an individual with some relevant work experience in content creation.
At this role level, you will:

Work independently after being given direction by more senior content designers
Independently identify user issues and needs in relation to web content
Support web team administration and publishing processes
Engage with and contribute to UKRI and cross-government content communities

Essential
English and Maths GCSE. (S)* Excellent editorial, proofreading and English language skills with experience of editing and proofing written content. (S & I)* Experience in following content processes, guidelines and standards. (S & I)* Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to form effective internal relationships and networks (S & I)* Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment. Desirable:
Experience in web editing or publishing using web content management systems. (S)* Knowledge of digital and web best practice. (S)* Familiar with agile project management techniques. (S)*
