Job Description

We are recruiting for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team (PIC) based in Birmingham or Bristol, on a hybrid basis. This role is a full time, permanent opportunity, and will further strengthen our existing PIC team that operate on a national basis.


This opportunity is ideally suited to a construction lawyer with a specialism in contentious matters; however, we are also open to hearing from those with a background in both contentious and non-contentious matters.


Nationally, the PIC team has expertise across a range of sectors including infrastructure, energy, real estate development and the public sector and undertakes both contentious, non-contentious construction and projects related work.


PIC has enjoyed significant growth and investment, making it an exciting and rewarding team to be a part of. The national Legal 500 team (with a presence in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, London Belfast and Glasgow) comprises approximately 40 people, including support and lawyers across all levels of seniority. There is genuine opportunity for lawyers of mid to senior level to progress rapidly within the team and be part of its continued success.


Your Role

You will:


Work for high calibre clients on complex contractual issues, with appropriate levels of Partner support Support clients on energy, infrastructure, highways, research facility, housing and student accommodation projects Be involved in advising clients at all stages of the post-contract process Represent clients in adjudication, arbitration and Technology and Construction Court proceedings Assist with advising clients on insolvency issues related to construction projects Build relationships with new clients and existing clients of the firm Develop your skills, knowledge and construction law expertise Delegate to and receive support from Trainees and Paralegals Support the Partner team on tenders Participate in business development activity to strengthen the team and firm client base Contribute to team strategic planning and business development activities

Your Skills and Experience

You will be/have:


A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered or equivalent), 3-6PQE, with contentious construction experience gained within a highly regarded Projects/Construction team. Experience and knowledge of complex Construction Law matters involving issues such as delay, disruption, defects, building/fire safety, and payment claims. Experience and knowledge of standard industry forms, such as NEC, JCT and FIDIC A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills, you will be self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines Commercially aware with enthusiasm for business development, and an appetite for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in your practice area and sector focus Able to understand your client's business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client Ambitious and enthusiastic team player, able to support senior fee earners and contribute to our collaborative culture

Our Projects, Infrastructure & Construction team have extensive experience in development and transactional construction projects, as well as expertise in dispute management and resolution. We have a significant record of advising UK infrastructure projects, in particular in the clean energy and transport sectors including on high value complex disputes.


We work with corporate clients of all sizes - global manufacturers and retailers, major national and regional builders, and commercial land developers are regular clients. We also work with registered housing associations and public bodies including local authorities, police forces and other governmental departments and agencies.
