Are you passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Warwickshire Attendance Service, a dedicated team committed to ensuring every child has access to education.

Reporting to the Team Manager - Attendance Service, you will work within a supportive and collaborative team environment. This role is pivotal in delivering the statutory guidance 'Working Together to Improve School Attendance', which becomes mandatory in August 2024.

About the Role



As an Attendance Adviser, you will play a key role in driving improved school attendance across Warwickshire. Your responsibilities will include:

Leading on Local Authority Core Functions: Delivering Targeting Support Meetings, providing expert advice, coordinating multi-agency support for families, and implementing legal interventions where necessary.


Building Strong Partnerships: Acting as the single point of contact for a defined locality, working closely with maintained, academy, and independent schools to identify and support pupils who are persistently or severely absent.


Removing Barriers to Attendance: Collaborating with schools and agencies to address challenges such as SEND, mental health, and family circumstances, ensuring tailored interventions are in place.


Providing Expert Guidance: Advising schools on whole-school attendance strategies, coding, policies, and best practice approaches.


Formal Interventions: Where all support options have been exhausted, you will contribute to formal processes, including Attendance Contracts, Parenting Orders, and, as a last resort, prosecutions. This includes preparing high-quality reports and evidence to meet legal standards.


You will receive full induction, ongoing training, and continuous professional development, ensuring you have the tools and knowledge to succeed in this rewarding role.

Key Requirements

We are seeking a proactive and resilient professional who:

Has experience supporting children and families in education, social care, or multi-agency settings. Understands the challenges faced by children experiencing trauma, mental health issues, SEND, or socio-economic pressures. Can deliver strategies and interventions to improve attendance or has transferable skills to learn and adapt quickly. Is highly organised, able to self-manage effectively, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines. Is committed to safeguarding, equality, and continuous professional development.

Additional Information



This is a locality-based role, meaning you will primarily work within a defined area of Warwickshire. While your primary focus will be your locality, you must be prepared and able to travel across Warwickshire when required to support service delivery. The office base is Shire Hall, Warwick, and we operate in line with WCC Agile Working principles, offering flexibility while maintaining service standards. Full induction and training will be provided, along with ongoing supervision and opportunities for continuous professional development.
