About us

Public Sector Audit Appointments Limited (PSAA) is an independent, not?for?profit company established by the Local Government Association in 2014. In 2016, PSAA was specified by government as the appointing person under the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, responsible for appointing auditors, setting fee scales for opted?in bodies, overseeing auditor independence, and monitoring audit?firm contract compliance.

The Government has proposed a statutory Local Audit Office (LAO) to centralise local audit oversight including system coordination, contract management and quality review and PSAA is actively supporting this transition, with our appointing functions expected to migrate to the LAO subject to legislation.
