A specialist school is seeking a compassionate and consistent Autism Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team in a long-term role. You'll support pupils across the school day, helping them feel safe, understood, and ready to engage with learning. For the right candidate, this role may lead to a permanent position.
The Role
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you'll play an essential role in supporting children with autism through every part of their school experience. Your work will be guided by individual needs and delivered with patience, structure, and a sense of calm.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Providing one-to-one and small group support across lessons and transitions
Helping pupils communicate their needs and navigate the school day
Supporting emotional regulation through structured routines and sensory strategies
Using visual timetables, communication aids, and consistent approaches to promote confidence and independence
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and SENCOs to implement EHCP targets
Offering a steady, empathetic presence that helps pupils feel secure and understood

A relevant qualification in Teaching Assistance, Health and Social Care, Social Work, or a related area

The ability to follow structured strategies while responding flexibly to individual needs

Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm

If you take a temporary role with Sense?Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
