A nurturing and inclusive school is looking for a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join their team in a long-term role supporting pupils across the school day. This is a meaningful opportunity to work 1:1 and in small groups with children with autism, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn. For the right person, this role may lead to a permanent position.
The Role
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you'll:
Support children with autism in both structured lessons and more flexible, individualised settings
Help pupils communicate their needs, manage transitions and build confidence in social situations
Assist with emotional regulation, including the use of calm spaces, sensory breaks and clear routines
Use visual supports, communication tools and consistent strategies to promote independence
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to implement EHCPs and deliver tailored learning
Be a trusted adult who offers empathy, structure and encouragement throughout the school day
Your presence will play a vital role in helping each child navigate challenges and celebrate successes--however small they may seem.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring warmth, resilience and a passion for inclusive education. You should have:
A relevant qualification in Teaching Assistance, Health and Social Care, Social Work or a related field
Experience supporting children or adults with autism or additional needs
A calm, patient approach and a strong understanding of how to support emotional regulation
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with staff, families and outside professionals
A genuine belief in every child's potential and the creativity to help them flourish in their own way

Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30?am to 3.30?pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
