About the Role

Hitchin Technologies Ltd is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading logistics provider for an experienced and safety-focused Automation Engineer to join the parcel sortation & automation team at a major hub location in Stoke-on-Trent.

This is a position suited to professionals seeking to develop their careers within a well-established, technology-led operation. The successful candidate will become part of a dedicated 8-person engineering team maintaining and optimising high-speed parcel sortation and conveyor systems, including equipment governed by Siemens PLC-based controls. You will ensure the efficient operation of automated machinery in a time-sensitive, high-throughput environment.

Key Responsibilities

Perform maintenance and fault-finding on automated sortation systems, conveyors, and associated machinery Working shifts mostly 3 weeks day (7am until 3pm), 1 week afternoon (10am-6pm) and 1 week evening (6pm - 2am) Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults efficiently to minimise system downtime Work closely with Siemens PLC-based control systems and support upgrades or modifications where needed Maintain accurate maintenance records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives Collaborate with a team of 8 engineers to ensure seamless engineering coverage and support

Requirements

Strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering within an automation, logistics, or manufacturing environment

Electrical bias preferred

are also welcome Experience working with Siemens PLCs and automated control systems highly desirable Electrically safe and compliant with relevant industry regulations Confident in reading and interpreting technical schematics and manuals Proactive, team-oriented, and capable of working independently when needed Flexible and reliable approach to working hours and responsibilities
