About the Role
Hitchin Technologies Ltd is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading logistics provider for an experienced and safety-focused Parcel Sortation / Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team at a major hub location in Stoke-on-Trent.
This is an ideal opportunity for engineers who thrive in a fast-paced, operational environment, working directly on complex mechanical and electrical systems. The successful candidate will join a close-knit team of eight engineers dedicated to keeping high-speed parcel sortation and conveyor systems running at peak performance. This role combines mechanical expertise with industrial electrical maintenance skills and is perfect for someone who enjoys tackling hands-on challenges and ensuring equipment runs smoothly day in and day out.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out mechanical and industrial electrical maintenance, repair, and fault-finding on parcel sortation systems, conveyors, chutes, diverters, and related equipment.
Diagnose and fix mechanical and electrical faults rapidly to minimize operational disruptions.
Perform both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance, keeping systems reliable and efficient.
Work closely with Siemens -based control systems and support upgrades or modifications where needed.
Undertake mechanical dismantling, replacement, and precise reassembly of key machine components, using a highly practical, on-the-ground approach.
Conduct electrical maintenance tasks such as checking motors, wiring, sensors, and control circuits to ensure operational integrity and safety.
Collaborate with the engineering team to deliver quick solutions, sharing practical knowledge and hands-on skills.
Support system upgrades and continuous improvement projects, contributing technical expertise to enhance equipment performance.
Maintain clear and accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and part replacements.
Work proactively in a shift-based pattern, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to keep the operation moving. (Mostly 3 weeks day 7am until 3pm, 1 week afternoon 10am-6pm and 1 week evening 6pm - 2am)
Requirements
Strong mechanical engineering background with strong practical maintenance and repair experience, ideally within logistics, parcel sortation, or industrial automation environments.
Proven experience in industrial electrical maintenance, including working safely on control panels, motors, sensors, and other electrical components.
Confident in diagnosing faults and executing hands-on mechanical and electrical repairs.
Experience working with Siemens PLCs and automated control systems highly desirable.
Ability to interpret mechanical schematics and electrical diagrams.
Comfortable working in an operational environment where immediate, practical problem-solving is essential.
Flexible and dependable, able to work shifts and respond to unexpected issues as needed.
Solid teamwork skills paired with the ability to work independently when required.
Positive attitude towards health and safety and a strong sense of responsibility for equipment uptime.
