Job Description




Technical specialist role responsible for the implementation of Automation system changes, administration and technical support relating to the sitewide Process Control System (PCS) and packaged plant SCADA/PLC automation systems installed at the Liverpool site.

  • Implementation of system hardware and software changes, system administration and maintenance ensuring all interventions are performed to the highest quality and technical standards.
  • Operational support for Automation systems including troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues relating to Automation in a timely manner.
  • Compliant execution of all systems lifecycle activities including configuration management, documentation, programming and testing of Automation systems.
  • Training associates in Automation function/activities where required.
  • Provides Automation SME input where required to assist with the investigation of any deviations that may be raised due to issues within the Automation
  • Supports Manufacturing Operations with the potential need for occasional out of hours technical support.
  • Develops experience and expertise in the SCADA/PLC, vision systems and their interfaces to corporate LAN and Level 3 serialization and aggregation processes through formal training and on the job experience in the Automation department
  • Actively promotes a safety culture, insuring all HSE responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Actively maintains and promotes a cGMP compliant culture, ensure the highest standards are applied within his/her area in accordance with the Orange Guide and CFR regulations.
  • Tests and evaluates automation equipment to ensure reliability and efficiency
  • The role holder should be qualified to degree/HNC.
  • Working towards Professional engineering status C.Eng or equivalent is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience within Automation Technologies in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in biopharmaceutical industry and Engineering/Automation projects preferred
  • Functional knowledge of cGMPs and manufacturing operations in FDA regulated facility
  • Expertise in the development and testing of Automated systems. Experience Siemens PCS7, WinCC/S7 PLC and Optel vision and serialization system applications is preferred
  • Trouble shooting of Automated system, capable of resolving technical issues independently
  • Knowledge of SCADA/PLC, PCS integration with IT networks and infrastructure is preferred
  • Knowledge of cGMP, GAMP and best practice in automated systems lifecycle management.
  • Strong communication skills with customers, design teams, contractors, and management
  • Action oriented skills; ability to learn on the fly
  • Good problem solving, technical learning, time management and prioritizing skills
