Job Description

smartKYC is seeking a highly skilled AWS Engineer to design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AWS services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, cloud security, and modern DevOps practices.

Most smartKYC employees have always operated from home but if the candidate is London-based (which isn't a prerequisite), there is the potential to occasionally join colleagues in a co-working space, in due course. Most smartKYC colleagues are non-UK based.

Key responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Design: Design and implement secure, scalable, and highly available AWS cloud solutions. Infrastructure Management: Build and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, or other IaC tools. Monitoring & Optimization: Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting (CloudWatch, Prometheus, ELK) while optimizing cost and performance. Security & Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR) by implementing best security practices (IAM, encryption, VPC security, GuardDuty). Collaboration: Work closely with development, security, and operations teams to deliver reliable and efficient solutions. Troubleshooting & Support: Provide technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving production and performance issues.
Must-have

Oral and written communication skills, with fluency in English Proven experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, ECS/EKS, Route53, IAM, VPC, etc.). Strong background in Linux/Unix administration Proficiency with Terraform Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS) Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git) Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, VPN, firewalls) Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Grafana, Datadog, ELK) Understanding of security best practices in cloud environments Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in agile teams
