The Royal NAAFI are currently recruiting for a Baker on board Royal Navy Ships. This is an exciting opportunity for you to live and work alongside The Royal Navy. As a Ship's Baker, you will play a crucial role in supporting the health, morale, and operational effectiveness of all personnel onboard by producing high-quality baked goods and desserts in a demanding maritime environment. Working as part of a multiskilled Royal Navy catering team, you will be responsible for the preparation, baking, and presentation of fresh bread, pastries, and other bakery items to the highest standard, ensuring full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and naval regulations, while actively contributing to all aspects of galley operations.

Duties
Responsible for preparing and producing a wide range of bakery items (bread, rolls, cakes, pastries, and desserts) to a consistently high standard.
Ensure that all bakery products are produced according to approved recipes, portion sizes, and nutritional guidelines, in line with MOD, NAAFI, and Royal Navy catering standards.
Provide guidance, instruction, and supervision to junior galley personnel involved in bakery or food preparation activities. Act as team leader for the bakery section, ensuring smooth coordination with the main galley.
Comply at all times with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and allergen legislation, ensuring full adherence to NAAFI and MOD policy. Maintain immaculate standards of hygiene and cleanliness across all bakery equipment, storage areas, and work surfaces.
Monitor and control bakery ingredient stock levels, assist in ration ordering and replenishment, and support cost-effective use of ingredients to maintain targets.
Ensure all bakery machinery and equipment are properly operated, cleaned, and maintained. Promptly report any faults or maintenance requirements to the Head Chef.
Work closely with the wider catering team to ensure food service delivery meets shipboard operational requirements. Provide cover for other departmental chefs or other galley functions when directed.
You will be required to become a Sponsored Reservist within the Royal Navy, which requires participation in emergency procedures, which may include; first aid and firefighting duties (full training will be given)
Undertake any reasonable request within the scope of the role, including assisting with general catering duties or wider operational activities as required by NAAFI or the Royal Navy.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years' proven experience as a Baker
Food Safety & Hygiene Level 3 qualifications (Preferred)
A passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional dining experiences to guests.
Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment, without compromising attention to detail.
Ability to plan & organise and work in a team.
Flexibility to be deployed for up to 10 months at a time and work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Ability to pass Sea Safety Training Course.
