Job Description

Sycamore Ward is a 15 bed female Acute Ward for adults of working age. You will be a clinical lead and support the ward manager and senior practitioner in managing a team of staff nurses and health care assistants. You will support with some operational duties and help develop and maintain clinical standards.



You will be an experienced registered nurse with a keen interest in acute adult care. You will be innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic with a passion for delivering the highest quality care, and continually working to improve the standards of care offered.



You will be able to demonstrate a passion for clinical excellence and quality improvement, have a high level of emotional resilience, and be able to support and motivate staff with developing and enhancing services.



In return, you will be offered a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within an acute admission ward for functional mental health.



You will also be supported to attend Charge Nurse Development training to support you in this role.



You will be offered monthly supervision, with a specific focus on your health and wellbeing, in addition to any developmental requests.



To provide clear clinical leadership to Staff Nurses and Mental Health Assistants working on the ward, ensuring continuity of care for service users and full implementation of Trust policies. The post holder will supervise Band 5 staff and below in developing, implementing, and assessing individual programmes of care. An integral part of the role is to undertake appraisals, clinical supervision, and teaching. Responsible for specific management duties within the ward, which are commensurate with their grade, the post holder will also provide general management in the absence of the Ward Manager.

Objective:



To carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high-quality, evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for patients are provided.



This will include:



Undertaking a comprehensive, patient-focused nursing assessment and preparing care plans in consultation with the service user to provide the best nursing care.



Carrying out clinical audits to evaluate and improve clinical services in partnership with service users.



Administering medication within relevant Trust and legislative guidance (e.g., NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010, the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, MHA 1983) and ensuring others apply these standards to support safe practice.



Demonstrating a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant Mental Health legislation.



Being familiar with the NMC's The Code:

Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives , recognising own competencies and addressing any limitations to ensure safe practice.



Implementing and encouraging others to implement research-based practice.



Supervising junior and unqualified staff.



Implementing care and rehabilitation programmes.



Evaluating the effectiveness of care provided in partnership with service users.



Undertaking risk assessments and developing risk management strategies for individual service users (ICPA/SAP) who present with mental health problems.
