About the role



At James Kids Home we are looking for Bank Staff Residential Support Workers. You will be required to work flexibly as part of the team under a zero-hour contract. Shift patterns may include some unsociable hours, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. The rate of pay is 13.00 per hour.

Responsibilities



By taking a lead with case/care planning management for individual children or young people, undertaking assessment of need, developing a care plan and identifying agreed outcomes and carrying out regular review in conjunction with children, young people and their families and other professionals.

By leading and working on shifts with accountability for service delivery, assessing and managing risks, deploying staff and resources accordingly while on the shift and to maintain personalised high quality care that is outcome focused for children and young people and apply agreed organisational procedures to ensure the safe care and management of children and young people in our care.



By supervising, guiding or directing staff and volunteers where required and provide mentoring to newly appointed staff



By supporting children and young people in their personal care, administration of medication and clinical procedures in line with the home policy and procedures and regulatory requirements.



By building and maintaining professional positive working relationships by providing emotional and social support to children and young people who can display challenging emotional and social difficulties.



By working within the community to assist the child / young person and their family, promoting communication and participation by ensuring that the views and needs of children/ young people are articulated, heard and responded to.



By consistently applying the home policy procedures and professional practice standards and in line with registration requirements.



By ensuring all records, paper and electronic, are maintained and duly uploaded into the appropriate database.



By undertaking assessment of children and young people co-ordinating multi agency and family information, analysing and producing reports; attendance at professional meetings including reviews, court work etc.



By referring appropriate cases and issues that require the involvement of a specialist, other management support or to directly provide the specialist support.



By developing effective working relationships with team members, partner agencies, other external agencies and colleagues



Skills



Work shifts on a 24/7 basis as required by the home

Ability to understand, analyse and develop positive behaviour support strategies for young people.

Ability to confidently communicate with parents/carers of young people using the service.

Experience you'll need:



Knowledge and experience of supporting children with a disability would also be an advantage.

Ability to work effectively within a large team and enjoy the changing pace of a Short Breaks and outreach service.

Previous experience of being part of a key worker/care team.

Experience of helping disabled young people overcome social inclusion barriers.

Experience of working with Young people affected by sensory processing issues, communication disorders and challenging behaviors.

Qualifications



Ideally, an NVQ level 3 in health and social care for children and young people or be working towards achieving NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services., or a qualification in social care, nursing, education, which would meet the registration requirements.
