The Bethnal Green Tavern is a bustling pub on the high street very close to Bethnal Green Tube, attracting a wide range of people and a lot of passing foot traffic. Reliably busy every day of the week our wet trade is well established and the pub is well loved by plenty of regulars. There are 17 beers on tap, of which 10 of which are guest lines, chosen in house. Cocktails are simple and accessible, made with great quality booze. Our wine selection, though small, is leaning towards the low intervention and organic. All our house beers and cider are from smaller independent producers. The food menu is inventive takes on pub classics, executed with care from fresh ingredients, again from smaller suppliers where possible. Sunday roasts are a fun and important part of the week, with lovely meat from McKanna butchers, gravy from scratch, and a thoughtful vegan option, and it's the only time we do table service, which brings in some tips and a nice change of pace for the team. The garden is spacious and draws in the crowds year round.
Service is friendly and relaxed, with a commitment to quality, consistency and enthusiasm. Staff are the key to a good work environment and happy customers, so we spend a lot of time training, coaching and supporting our team.
A key part of our identity is putting on events that are fun, interesting, engage our existing customers and draw in new ones. Focussing on our beer, wine, spirits and the small producers we have good relationships with, they often tie in with our food offer with special dishes for the occasion.
Our next big focus, is to create a real renown for our food offering. We are quickly becoming known as The Best Roast in Bethnal Green and THE place to dine after work. Working closely with the Head Chef and Sous, we are tweaking and improving the menu to make sure it's a true balance of East End pub classics and food that intrigues. We are working to make sure that everyone knows just how good it is, while keeping a balance with our busy drink led bar.
A great candidate will have a real passion for the beverage industry, with a thirst for exploring new breweries, distilleries and cocktail ideas. Getting ready to go diving into extensive beer lists to find the next gem for the bar is one of the highlights of the role here.
We are looking for someone who gets really pumped up about the room for creativity we have here and can also get their head down and bosh out some serious back of house work and manage busy shifts. The structure of our company is light on the Operations team, and heavily invested in site management, which allows for lots of creative input into the business, working closely with the company director in defining the vision for the business and strategy to get there.
We are a relaxed and friendly team, focussed on creating a great atmosphere to work, drink and eat in. Candidates should be speedy, when necessary, curious by nature and enjoy a good chat with customers. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive working environment, and are also keen to train people and share our knowledge - a great Supervisor will be able to motivate, educate and nurture the rest of the team.
We are part of the Grace Land group, home of The Red Hand, The Axe, The Earl of Essex, The Duke of St Albans, The Black Heart and Saint Monday, our brewery/tap room. It's a nice gang of sites to roam between, with staff discounts facilitating a lot of hanging out at each other's bars.
