Barista/café All Rounder

Chichester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We are a coffee shop start-up looking for an engaging and friendly barista, passionate about coffee and community!

Robin's Nest is a brand new, independent coffee shop committed to serving excellent, ethically sourced specialty coffee; local, home-made produce; and to offering a friendly welcome to all. Here at Robin's Nest, our mission is to demonstrate and celebrate a people-centred way of running a business, including by offering staff the opportunity to become shareholders.

We are looking for someone to greet customers warmly, answer their questions, take orders and accept payments, and prepare and serve food and drinks. You will also maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation methods, and presentation.

Responsibilities

Welcoming customers warmly, answering questions, and accepting orders and payments. Preparing and serving coffee and tea. Packaging food and beverages for sale. Selling coffee beans, and answering questions about our coffee, our suppliers, and our ethos. Some support with kitchen prep may be required, e.g. support in making cakes, salads, sandwiches and soups. Washing dishes and cleaning. Emptying rubbish bins. Updating signage and displays to attract customers. Taking inventory and replenishing items. Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls. Maintaining the coffee machine, grinders, and other equipment through regular cleaning and monitoring. Working as part of a fun, high-energy team. Engage with customers and ensure all feedback is relayed to management.

Requirements

A passion for excellent coffee and a commitment to continuously deepening your understanding of all things coffee. A positive, can-do attitude. Creativity and motivation to be part of a start-up. A great communicator. Commitment to excellent customer service. Previous barista experience is desirable though full training will be provided. Previous work experience in a food and drinks preparation role is preferred but not essential. An in-date Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate, or a willingness to take this course. Willingness to work weekends.

Benefits

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about coffee. By joining a start-up, you will have the chance to really make your mark, to dive into this exciting project and help to create a space that will be of ongoing benefit to the community.

As a Barista, you will receive full training at our coffee roastery in London (travel expenses and lunch will be provided).

Once a team has been established, and Robin's Nest has been running for at least 12 months, we will explore the option of becoming a worker's co-operative. This would mean that permanent staff would be able to choose whether to become shareholders and directors in the business, although there would be absolutely no obligation to do so.
