Basketball fun for 5-12 year olds; weekly [term time] basketball sessions for young people, delivered by qualified basketball coaches and support staff. Hoop Heroes is currently based in and around Hertfordshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire counties, with ambitions to develop more sites in these counties and other surrounding areas.
The Role
Hoop Heroes is now looking to recruit for a Head Coach in one of it's new locations. You will lead on all aspects of delivery of engaging sessions, ensure safe, fun and compliant sessions and provide oversight, leadership, and development of Assistant Coaches. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to learn, grow and ultimately impart basketball knowledge and wisdom to the next generation. You will have the chance to enhance sessions by leading workshops and expanding the sports program.
Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high-quality Coaching sessions to young people aged 5-13 years old, ensuring an engaging, fulfilling, and active session.
Maintain session registers are correct and all students are present.
Prepare for each session and maintain session plans. Sessions should be progressive and tailored to meet the learning needs and goals of the students.
Track students' development and give feedback to help them reach their personal goals.
Regularly review and update risk assessments, ensuring sessions are carried out with the safety of students and staff in mind.
Manage and support the development of one of multiple Assistant Coaches and assess their performance and provide constructive feedback.
Ensure all activity equipment is kept in good condition, is stored away safely after each session and end-of-summer inventory is created.
Efficiently manage queries or problems that staff, children, parents, or agents may have about coaching, sessions or anything relating to the delivery.
Assess students' standards and arrange suitable ability groups to ensure fair competition.
To take ownership for all students' safety, welfare, and behaviour, including discipline, during Hoop Heroes Sessions.
To report back to the Managing Director with any session issues, complaints, risk issues, health and safety problems and/or similar, noteworthy session occurrences.
Attend monthly Head Coach Zoom meetings, lead by the Managing Director, to give updates about sessions and receive feedback and any upcoming changes.
Experience and Qualifications
At least 2 years of basketball coaching experience.
Previous experience managing other coaches.
Full and clean DBS.
Ability to engage with young people and provide fun and collaborative basketball sessions.
Good basketball game knowledge and a repertoire of skills games, training activities and ice breaking activities.
Good administration skills when working with risk assessments, session plans, Assistant Coach management and development.
Good industry knowledge and ability to stay abreast of news relating to young people, education requirements and industry expectations.
