BEMS Design Engineer .


About the Role

: As a BEMS Design Engineer at Imperium Building Systems, you'll manage the complete design process of Building Energy Management Systems. From initial concept through detailed design and documentation, you'll deliver high-quality, innovative solutions. You'll collaborate closely with project managers, principal engineers, estimators, and commissioning engineers, while mentoring junior staff.



Project Specific Responsibilities


System Design:


Create comprehensive BEMS designs from initial concept through detailed technical plans.

Technical Queries & RFIs:


Prepare and manage RFIs; communicate directly with clients and consultants regarding technical design queries.

Equipment Selection:


Assist in selecting appropriate equipment and developing detailed points schedules for each project.

Network & Architecture Design:


Develop precise network topologies and system architecture, ensuring compatibility and integration with HVAC, IT networks, and serial communication systems.

System Descriptions:


Write and collaborate on clear, accurate, and detailed system descriptions of operation.

Documentation & Compliance:


Take full responsibility for creating and managing technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and handover documents. Ensure designs comply fully with BS7671, CIBSE, and CEDIA guidelines.

Mentorship & Supervision:


Mentor and supervise junior engineers and apprentices, providing guidance and training.

Collaboration & Communication:


Work closely with project managers, principal engineers, commissioning engineers, and estimators to ensure seamless project delivery.


General Responsibilities



Train and mentor staff at various levels within the business. Contribute actively to the creation of Imperium Academy training documentation. Regularly communicate with the Technical Director and Sales team about potential improvements to preliminary designs and quotes. Stay updated on industry developments, continuously striving to deliver cost-effective and high-quality systems. Maintain professional competence through ongoing development and training. Work responsibly, acknowledging personal competencies and limitations. Support colleagues raising genuine concerns about risks, malpractice, or wrongdoing. Adopt sustainable practices to minimise waste and environmental impact. Adhere to the ethical principles outlined by the Engineering Council at all times.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Essential Qualifications:




Completion of BCIA Training Courses BCM01 to BCM06.

Desirable Qualifications:




HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or similar. Professional registration or working towards membership of a recognised industry body.

Experience:




Minimum of 3 years' experience in designing and delivering BEMS projects. Proven experience using Trend, Tridium, North, KNX, or Distech platforms. Familiarity integrating BEMS with HVAC, IT networks, and serial communication systems.

Strong technical design and analytical capabilities. Excellent communication skills, particularly with clients and consultants. Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to mentor and develop junior team members effectively. Commitment to continuous professional development and internal documentation improvement.
