. This dual-role position requires someone who is confident working both at the bench and with woodworking machinery to produce precision-made components to exacting standards.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled craftsperson capable of interpreting technical drawings, machining timber accurately, and assembling products using traditional and modern techniques. You'll be joining a passionate team committed to quality, heritage, and craftsmanship.
Key ResponsibilitiesBench Joinery:
Manufacture timber windows, doors, and frames from technical drawings.
Use traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon, scribing, and wedging.
Assemble and finish products with attention to detail, fit, and function.
Fit hardware, ironmongery, and glazing beads as required.
Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and consistency.
Machining:
Operate spindle moulders, tenoners, cross-cut saws, planers, thicknessers, and band saws safely and accurately.
Prepare and machine timber components to required profiles and dimensions.
Select tooling and setup machines to produce custom mouldings and joinery parts.
Conduct regular checks and maintenance of machinery and tooling.
Follow cutting lists and optimise timber usage with minimal waste.
General:
Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD layouts, and cutting lists.
Work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to meet production deadlines.
Maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient workshop environment.
Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to a positive safety culture.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience in both bench joinery and wood machining roles.
Ability to read and work from detailed technical and joinery drawings.
Competent in the use of traditional joinery hand tools and workshop machinery.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Strong understanding of different timber types and their properties.
Health and safety awareness, with a responsible and proactive approach to safe working.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry, Joinery, or Wood Machining (or equivalent).
Experience in manufacturing joinery for listed or heritage buildings.
Familiarity with conservation standards and traditional timber window and door design.
Basic maintenance skills for woodworking machinery.
Forklift licence or timber handling experience.
